Women’s magazine garners national honors for Evangel University Alumnus

Lancaster, Pennsylvania – The Evangelical Press Association awarded Leading Hearts Magazine with a prestigious 2016 Award of Merit for Christian Ministry Digital Publication for the second year in a row at its annual convention on April 8, 2016.

In addition, Leading Hearts columnist Torry Martin received his second aard in the Humor Article Category in EPA’s High Goals Category.

Leading Hearts is a free e-magazine dedicated to Christian women who lead at home, work, church and in their community. As the official magazine of the Advanced Writers and Speakers Association (AWSA), the magazine highlights article contributions from the top female authors and communicators in the Christian publishing world and gives tips and insight for personal and professional growth.

Evangelical Press Association 2016 Awards Judge Dan Conn (Randall House Publishers) says, "[Leading Hearts] is beautifully designed and enjoyable. There is a lot of creativity in the range of ideas and the playful, friendly look and feel of this publication that just invites readers to come in, sit down, and dig in. Personality plus packed onto each page. [The publication] contains a wonderful mix of ideas that attest to this magazine's understanding of its audience."

Leading Hearts is published by Right to the Heart Ministries (Longmont, Colorado), a non-profit led by prayer author Linda Evans Shepherd, who is also the founder of ASWA. Amber Weigand-Buckley (left), a Springfield, Missouri native, is the founding editor and presently serves as both editor and art director for the magazine.

“It was tough competition this year with more entries than the Evangelical Press Association has had in many years,” Weigand-Buckley says. “For Leading Hearts to be judged side-by-side with the best of the best of Christian publications worldwide, is an extreme honor.”

Weigand-Buckley holds a Bachelor in Journalism from Evangel University (Springfield, Mo.) and has spent more than 21 years in the magazine industry.

Including the 16 years as editor for ONCOURSE  magazine in Assemblies of God Youth Ministries, the publications Weigand-Buckley has served on as editor have garnered a total of 11 Evangelical Press Association Awards. She also was named the 2015 Advanced Writers and Speakers Association Member of the Year (awsa.com).
